Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. The people who aren't familiar with this term frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to every aspect of the Lachine city. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently referenced, however her brief stay did not last long. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond her dance partner. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." After I surpassed my male counterparts, that's when I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school which led her in the right direction. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in their annual school production. She auditioned and ended up playing the role of the main character for the role in Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she's appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character Rita in the Handmaid's Tale the series produced over the course of ten years.
